Élégance and cinema are a three-week product. The rest of the year the palaces have to be hotels again. A few of them remember how.
Cannes is two destinations that share a promenade. One of them lasts three weeks and sells a room as a front row. The other is a Belle Époque resort town with a bay, a hill, and a handful of palaces that know what to do when the cameras leave. Book the second. The first will find you if it needs you.
After the festival the rate is an argument. Some houses pretend the May floor is the new truth. Some return to being the hotel they were in April, which is the more expensive kind of honesty. Walk the Croisette in June before breakfast. The light is the same. The crowd is not. That is the stay.
