Reports
The islands are not the risk. The route to them is.
A record 2025, a transit shock in 2026, and a tax stack that adds a quarter to the bill before you have seen the lagoon. Written from the brief, for the person who books.

Two million two hundred and fifty thousand arrivals in 2025. That is the record. The first half of 2026 came in at 1.05 million, five percent down, with the European corridor off thirty-eight percent. The atolls did not close. Dubai and Doha blinked. Forty-five percent of the country's seats still travel through Gulf hubs. The islands were never the fragile part of the product. The route was.
China is now the first market. Russia is the second, and still growing. Direct metal from those two did the work the European connections could not. The millionth guest of 2026 landed on 21 June, about three weeks later than in 2025. Then the summer held. August closed at 195,390 arrivals, 1.7 percent above August 2025. Through August the year stood at 1.42 million, still 4.3 percent under the record. That is not a collapse, and it is not a recovery. It is a country whose sky is a supplier.
The bill that is not on the villa page
T-GST at seventeen percent. Service at ten. Green tax at twelve dollars a person a day. A seaplane at five hundred to a thousand dollars a head, return. The Office's own example is a seven-night stay at a published two thousand four hundred a night: sixteen thousand eight hundred on the villa page, something closer to twenty-two once the stack is on it. Meals and the cancellation rule are not in that figure. We will not invent them.
| Line | Dollars |
|---|---|
| Villa, 7 × 2,400 | 16,800 |
| Service, 10 percent | 1,680 |
| T-GST, 17 percent of the villa | 2,856 |
| Green tax, 12 × 2 × 7 | 168 |
| Seaplane, two adults, return | 1,000–2,000 |
The published villa rate is never the final one — add a confident 25–40%.
ADR at the luxury houses is holding at about one thousand two hundred and forty dollars. Occupancy is sixty-eight percent, still shy of 2019. RevPAR is up. The state's share of the guest's bill grew in the same season the resorts' share shrank. That is not a glitch. It is a policy.
What to do with this
Book the houses you can reach by boat if your dates sit inside a fragile hub. Do not treat May to September as one cheap season. May, June and September are the wet windows where strong houses still discount. July and August are a family mini-peak: August 2025 was already 192,000 arrivals, near an October, and August 2026 did not break. Use points at the global flags, where a programme can still hold a shoulder night. Name the atoll, name the transfer, then name the house.

The last line
The desk can ask. It cannot invent a door.
Where the house is open, that is the official rate and the privileges that house actually honours. Where it is not open, the answer is that it is not open. Miles and status are not a promise on a project with no reservations.
