Name the atoll, or do not name the trip
Baa is not Noonu. Raa is not South Malé. After a million arrivals the country split; the brochure did not.
The traveller who still thinks 'the Maldives' is a single product is booking a country that no longer exists. There are one hundred and seventy-nine resorts. There are not one hundred and seventy-nine kinds of silence. There are about ten faces, and the Office has been saying so in a briefing that the industry files under 'destination' and the guest never sees.
A short character list
North and South Malé: the speedboat atolls. You are in the water in twenty minutes and you can see the next island's lights. Useful. Not remote. Baa: UNESCO water, manta season, Soneva Fushi, Four Seasons Landaa — the atoll that still has a reason to go besides the villa. Noonu: the fashion shelf — Cheval Blanc Randheli, Velaa, Soneva Jani, and Mondrian as a reflag of Kuredhivaru. Raa: Joali, Joali Being; Bulgari is no longer an October. Haa Dhaalu: Soneva Secret, far enough that the transfer is the plot. Laamu, Gaafu, Dhaalu: the south, where the seaplane is long and the rate has to justify it. Fari: a manufactured archipelago that behaves like a small town. That is not an insult. It is a different product.

The farther from the airport — the higher the exclusivity.
Brilliant Addresses would put this as character first, geography second. We will not pretend South Malé is a failed Baa. It is a place you book when the seaplane is the risk you will not take. Baa is a place you book when the manta is the calendar. Noonu is a place you book when the maison is the destination and the atoll is the setting. Say that out loud before you look at a villa. The villa will agree with whoever you already are.

Where the house is open, that is the official rate and the privileges that house actually honours. Where it is not open, the answer is that it is not open. Miles and status are not a promise on a project with no reservations.
